STUDENT LIFE - INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

Students from the Paris Program visiting GA

Greenwich Academy
Dr. Jean P. Delcourt

Greenwich Academy offers several exchange programs which give students the opportunity to discover and study new cultures, and in most cases speak the foreign language they study in full immersion with homestays.  Students often have a choice between traveling during the school year, in which case they are closely monitored academically even while they are away, or in June, with an understanding that the foreign school experience is less extensive in Europe at that time of year.  In New Zealand, however, the June option preserves the total learning experience since school is in full session.  All admissions into these programs take into account the willingness to host a foreign student in the United States in return, and are also subject to departmental or administrative approval

GA NORMANDY PROGRAM
Four weeks, open to Sophomores.  In February or June, students stay in the city of Rouen, capital of Normandy, with its beautifully preserved medieval town center.  Rouen is the sixth city in France and boasts an impressive mix of gothic and Renaissance beauty and 21st-century audacity in its architecture.  Students attend classes at the fifth-highest ranking baccalauréat-scoring highschool in the nation, the Lycée Privé Jean Baptiste de la Salle.  Students live with a local family and travel with their new friends on weekends to nearby Paris or other readily accessible destinations such as the Channel coast, the Loire Valley, and many others.

GA PARIS PROGRAM
Four weeks, open to Sophomores.  In February or June, students stay with Paris families in the delightful suburb of Antony, directly South of the capital.  They attend classes at one of the top private schools in Paris, the Institution Sainte Marie.  Its academic standards match ours since ISM is the seventh highest-ranking for baccalauréat results nationwide.  Across the street is a métro station so a trip to the Eiffel Tower only takes 20 minutes.  It is difficult to imagine a more convenient and memorable way to discover French life and of course, the City of Lights…

GA MADRID PROGRAM
Four weeks, open to Sophomores.  In February or June, students stay with Madrid families in the brand new and attractive urbanización of Boadilla del Monte, about 25 minutes away from the Plaza Mayor.  They attend the Colegio Mirabal, one of the top private schools (K-12) in the capital.  The school is impressive for its facilities and even boasts an olympic-size swimming pool.  Madrid is of course a very lively European capital, and yet its pace always remains friendly, with time for treasures such as the Palacio Real, the Museo del Prado, and many more… Weekend trips may include nearby Aranjuez, Segovia, and Toledo.

GA NEW ZEALAND PROGRAM
Four weeks, open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.  The students go to Auckland in June, and attend the largest private high school in New Zealand, the Rangitoto College, with its 3,000 student population.  It is located on the beautiful, surfer-friendly Mairangi Bay.  The academic standards are very much comparable to ours, with a vast array of courses such as Japanese, Maori, or …fashion design!  A well-kept secret, New Zealand is a breathtakingly beautiful country.
