From the Greenwich Academy Parents Association President
Dear Greenwich Academy Parents,
There are so many things to look forward to at the start of a new school year!
Our daughters may be excited about making new friends, seeing their classmates
or getting to know their teachers. As parents, one of the most enjoyable and
rewarding experiences we can anticipate is involvement with the school through
GAPA, the Greenwich Academy Parents Association.
Already, many GA parents have busy throughout the summer arranging numerous
volunteer opportunities that fit a wide variety of schedules. Whether you are
seeking an opportunity to meet parents in different classes or to apply and
share your own talents and strengths, please look at the enclosed volunteer
sign-up sheet for activities that may interest you and return it to Parent
Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Moore.
One of GAPA’s most popular and successful activities is the Faculty and Staff
Appreciation effort through which families donate raffle items to monthly
drawings for teachers and staff. Since donors don’t know who the recipient
will be until the name is drawn out of the basket, it’s a really fun way for
parents to show their support and meet employees in all parts of the school.
If you would like to make a donation or learn more about this program, please
contact Faculty and Staff Appreciation Chair Tracy Brymer.
Each year, GAPA arranges two opportunities for all parents to come together on
campus. The first is Annual Dinner, organized by Julie Ostrover and Gail
Reynolds on Thursday, September 27, when Head of School Molly King and Chairman
of the Board Philip Duff will address the parent body. Although it’s months
away, we are already looking forward to our second all-parent gathering, the
Spring Party Benefit, chaired by Suzanne Packer and tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, May 3.
On a daily basis, GAPA provides an open channel for communication between
parents and the administration. We hope you will tell me or any GAPA Board
member your ideas, questions or concerns.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you and working with you
throughout the year!
Best wishes,
Karen Keegan
