ENDOWED & MAJOR GIFTS

Greenwich Academy depends on major gifts to help build its endowment and to support specific capital projects and needs of the School.

In 2004, Greenwich Academy successfully concluded its Enhancing Excellence campaign, which raised over $50 million in endowment. An astonishing 1,102 members of the GA community participated in this all-inclusive effort. The income generated from these funds supports three primary priorities: faculty, diversity and facilities, including the servicing of a tax-exempt bond issued for the construction of the Patsy G. Howard Upper School and the Wallace Library.

Based on the renewed commitment to academic excellence and character outlined in its new strategic plan developed in 2005, the Academyrecently completed a targeted $30 million fundraising effort, Essential Connections, to address the strengthening of community at Greenwich Academy through support for faculty and student initiatives that set the highest standards for teaching practices, recruitment and retention, financial assistance and facility needs.

The Faculty Initiative—will enhance faculty compensation and benefits, improve and increase faculty housing options, and expand mentorship and fellowship programs.

The Financial Assistance Initiative—will increase scholarship endowment for financial assistance to broaden GA’s community outreach.

The Middle School Initiative—will provide renovated and expanded Middle School facilities to benefit students and faculty and enhance the program.

Established Endowed Fund gifts augment the School’s general endowment and strengthen the School’s overall financial condition. The income from these permanent funds is used for specific purposes to support academic programs, scholarships, diversity initiatives and faculty development.

Faculty Funds—include funds to support professional development, fellowship and mentorship programs and sabbatical and teaching Chair opportunities.

Program Funds—include department-specific funding and lecture series.

Scholarship Funds—provide financial assistance to students of need.

Technology Funds—are designated toward technology advancement opportunities for both students and faculty.

Designated gifts to the Academy are restricted as to their purpose and are used directly to enhance the current programs at the Academy.

Greenwich Academy has made significant strides in building its endowment, tripling its size over the last ten years. In order for the Academy to stay true to its mission, to keep pace with the newest advances in education, to remain competitive among comparable schools and to provide security for its future, it is imperative that the growth of the School’s endowment continue to be a priority.
