On September 12, 2004, GA Athletic Director Angela "Tammy" Tammaro was inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame. The Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 to establish a venue to recognize, honor and perpetuate the memory of those who, wither through participation, support, service or achievement, have contributed to the enhancement of field hockey in Connecticut. Inductees are those candidates who have distinguished themselves through excellence and who have helped bring acclaim, honor and distinction to Connecticut field hockey.
Tammy was recognized for her 38-year career at Greenwich Academy, during which she has established an amazing 553-54-43 record. Four times during her tenure, GA field hockey teams have been New England Champions and have been Runners Up three times. From 1984 through 2003, they won the Fairchester Athletic Association every year, a remarkable 20 straight.
Tammy's involvement in filed hockey preceded and extended beyond Greenwich Academy. She played club ball after college in Boston and later with the "Flying Dutchmen," the Stuyvesant Field Hockey Club. She has been involved in may summer camps and clinics and has served as the site director and head coach in the Future's program. Beyond the coaching achievements, Tammy has earned the highest honor bestowed upon any umpire by being named Emeritus National Field Hockey Official.
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association chose Tammy as the National Coach of the Year in 2003. She has been and remains a coaching institution in New England prep school field hockey.
