In
Middle School music, students learn to read, understand, perform
and appreciate a variety of musical styles and genres. Students
develop knowledge and understanding of music terminology, vocal
technique, the ability to listen to and analyze music, as well as
performance etiquette and practice. Field trips to classical concerts,
school assemblies with guest artists and major performances throughout
the year all add to the Middle School students’ musical education
at Greenwich Academy.
In Group V through VII, students have music two times
each week. When students reach Group VIII, they may elect to take
Chorus VIII, which meets two times each week as well as Voice Class,
which meets once during a six day rotating schedule. The Middle
School Chamber Orchestra is open to all students, Groups V through
VIII who play an instrument and meets one period each week.
Private lessons are available to students in voice,
violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, flute and piano. There are
a number of adjunct professional music teachers who come to the
school to teach and there are many students who study privately.
Music plays an important role in the life of
the Middle School at Greenwich Academy. Many Middle School
students go on to continue their music education in the Upper School,
performing throughout their time at Greenwich Academy and in the
many colleges and universities they attend.
