Q: Why
do you love field hockey?
A: "
Field hockey reminds me a lot of soccer, which is one of the world’s
most popular sports, but field hockey is more complex and challenging.
I definitely recommend watching any national team play (men or
women). The movement of the ball all over the field and the players’
individual skills and stick work are just amazing to watch."
Q: How
did GA prepare you for college athletics?
A: "When I
came to college, I felt more mentally prepared than others in
a few ways. A lot of people are used to being the star, maybe
even starting all four years of high school. They often have trouble
adjusting their freshman year of college. I’m very grateful
for having gone through GA’s huge and successful program."
Q:
Did you have any mentors at GA that inspired you?
A: "There
would be too many among all the unique faculty and coaches to
single out any. I learned so much from so many of them. However,
of course, I’ll always worship Ms. T."
Q:
What do you miss the most about sports at GA?
A: "I miss
all the people I got to play with. Even practice was always a
lot of fun. Everything was hilarious. I also miss Ms. T yelling
at all the geese."
Q:
How does playing in college differ from playing at GA?
A: "Field
hockey on short turf is a completely different sport than on grass
(and even the new artificial grass GA has now). The intensity
and commitment are also a lot greater, not to mention all the
injuries. I can’t imagine playing for a really great field
hockey school considering how often I forget that I am in school,
and not just playing a sport, now. My team now and my team in
high school are both like families, but my team now also sometimes
feels like a business."
Q:
What do you think you want to do after college?
A: "I still
have a little while to get that figured out, but I think I might
like to get a job in engineering after I graduate, just to give
it a chance. Eventually, I’d love to get my MBA. After that,
we’ll see where that takes me."
